Last night (May 24, 2006) was the coldest of the year; temperatures plunged to a freezing 12° C, and the infamous São Paulo Garoa mist seemed to float in the air. That may not seem very cold to northern hemisphere folk, but for us tropical types, a humid 12° C (53.6° F) is very cold!

We were worried that São Paulo's evening rush traffic jams and the cold weather would keep alumni away from our cocktail, preferring to stay warmly bundled up at home, but we were pleasantly surprised when over 30 people showed up for reminiscing, networking and a lot of laughter.

Quite a few people arrived before 8 pm, which was the time limit to get a free beer on the house, kindly offered by the Santa Thereza Bar. Caipirinhas and red wine also flowed freely as we enjoyed the famous Santa Thereza hors d'oeuvres. The bar is owned by fellow alum Renata Moraes and is the watering hole of choice for many of our members who live in this region of town.

This meeting was also the opportunity to bid a hardy farewell to John Clark Sepulveda, as he is being transferred to Madrid with SocGen. Another excuse for multiple toasts was the appearance of Itche Vasserman, who had been out of touch for decades, and the surprise visit of Marcus Sallum, who now lives in Switzerland but happened to be in São Paulo.
