In Memoriam: Carl Muller, 79

Joined Chase via Netherlands Trade Bank in 1965

From Eric Hasselman:

I am sad to report that Carl Muller, my fellow Dutchman from Amsterdam, died last week due to complications of kidney failure.  He was 79 years old and had spent his entire career with Chase or one of its acquired banks.

Officially, Carl joined Chase in 1965 in Asia with the acquisition of the Netherlands Trade Bank, where he had many assignments in branch management, marketing and operations.  Carl then had various assignments in Chase Asia and then Europe, including manager of Dusseldorf Branch as well as stints at head office.

His final assignment was as a managing director of the Netherlands Credit Bank, initially a partially owned Chase affiliate and eventually a wholly owned subsidiary.  Carl also served as the senior Chase representative to the bank, which at one point was the third largest in the Netherlands.  He was a well-respected and colorful member of the Dutch banking community.  Carl retired from banking in 1991 and moved to Sarasota, FL.

Carl's first wife, Ien, an accomplished artist, passed away shortly thereafter, and he eventually remarried another Dutch woman, Anja.  At the time of his death, they were enjoying the good life in Venice, FL, and also had a home in Holland.

Carl was a very cheerful, good-humored man with many interests and hobbies.  One of the more interesting of them was engaging you in long e-mail exchanges involving complex political views.  Carl's glee in this and your amusing responses were great fun and lasted many years, as viewed by Freddy DeMan and myself. Carl was also an avid collector of model trains and at one time had an entire garage devoted to his trains and villages.

While there will not be any formal services for Carl, his ashes will be scattered along beautiful Venice Beach.
Carl's wife Anja's address is as follows:

Mrs. Anja Muller
3211 Meadow Run Drive
Venice, FL 34293
