A Moment in Bank History

Brushes with Celebrities in the Course of Business...

By Johnny Torrance-Nesbitt

So, while on West Coast MBA recruiting trips I made for Chemical Bank's Management Recruitment Department between 1977 and late 1980, I encountered several notable Hollywood personalities.

Once Shannon James (a Chemical Bank officer in San Francisco) and I were enjoying a drink or two at the Polo Lounge after hosting a USC MBA recruiting event in 1979, and we were seated next to John Belushi. We spoke to him, and he was a true gentlemen and very friendly. We regret not having asked him for an autograph. (Obviously in those days, there were no cell phone pictures to be taken.

Similarly, in 1978, after I hosted a UCLA MBA event we went to Carroll O'Connor's bar, The Ginger Man, in Beverly Hills after the Yankees had won a playoff game.   Mr. O'Connor came over to our group and chatted us up. He mentioned how he had been a Chemical Bank customer once in his New York days.
