In Memoriam: William J. Pohlmann, 85

25 Years at Chase Manhattan; VP in Global Cash Management

 

William J. (Bill) Pohlmann, who worked for Chase Manhattan from 1969 to 1994, died on November 23, 2023. He was 85 and died at home in Monroe Township, NJ.   

 

Born in Davenport, IA, Pohlmann was a graduate of the University of Iowa, receiving a BBA degree in 1960. Three weeks after graduation, he began his business career with the accounting department of the New York Central Railroad Company in New York City.

 

In February 1961, he was called to active duty as an Army Infantry Officer. In August of 1961, he was released from active duty and returned to the New York Central Railroad. While working as assistant treasurer, the proverbial "office romance" began with Yvonne Merritt. They were married in May 1965.

 

From 1969 until 1994 He worked at Chase Manhattan Bank in New York. He retired as a Vice President in Global Cash Management and was a longtime member of the Chase Alumni Association.

 

The Pohlmanns lived in the Croton-on-Hudson-Cortland, NY area until 2007, when they moved to New Jersey. While living in Croton, Pohlmann was elected to two consecutive terms as Village Trustee. He was also named Deputy Mayor, Fire Commissioner and a liaison to a variety of committees. He was also a member of the Croton Rod & Gun Club. Active in volunteer work for Holy Name of Mary Church, he was chairman of the church Finance Committee and president of the Parish Council.

 

He was predeceased by his wife in 2013. Survivors include a daughter, Michelle Delaney (husband Jeffrey Delaney), and son, John Pohlmann, and three grandchildren, with a great-grandson due in January.
