In Memoriam: Donal Schmidt, 73

Thirty-three Years at Chase

Donal (Don) Schmidt, who worked for Chase for 33 years, died on January 1, 2023 in Dallas at the age of 73.

Born in New York, he was a graduate of Fairfield University in Connecticut.

By joining Chase, Schmidt followed in the footsteps of his father, Frank, who had spent the entirety of his career with the bank. Don started in the executive training program before becoming a branch manager in Valley Stream and other locations. He was later based out of Manhattan and also had responsibilities in Rochester, NY.  His family believes that he was a Senior Vice President when he retired.

Schmidt also worked in consulting for Deloitte and in the Controller's office for EAM Partners and Alpha Financial Technologies.

He loved baseball, football, golf and spending time with his four grandchildren, never missing one of their games.

Among his survivors are his wife, Patricia, two sons, a daughter and the grandchildren.

From Ron Tankiewicz I worked with Don at Chase for about 10 years (1973) and had some good times (laughs) even though we worked.

From John Hehir: I mourn the passing of Don Schmidt. I worked with him in the Metropolitan Community Bank and in the Regional Bank in the late 1980s and early 1990s where he was the Financial Manager for the Operations Group.  Don was always easy to deal with, and he could be relied upon to meet all deadlines no matter how complex or demanding. He was also an excellent team builder and team player. He will be missed by all.

From Brian Cashin: I worked with Don in the Operations Department of the Metropolitan Community Bank. He was such a very laid back, easygoing Finance Officer. When it came to spending “his money”, you really had to do your homework.
RIP Don
