In Memoriam: John Challice, 86

Consumer Banking at Chase for 40 Years

 
 
John W. Challice, who worked at Chase Manhattan Bank in Retail Banking for 40 years, died of a heart attack on March 16, 2024 at the age of 86. He had lived in Malverne, NY, for more than 50 years.
 
Challice grew up in Flatbush, Brooklyn, where he attended Erasmus High School, before earning an undergraduate degree from Long Island University, followed by an MBA from New York University.
 
After serving in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1963, he joined Chase Manhattan Bank. Most of his work there was in Consumer Banking, particularly as part of the branch system.

Upon retirement, John was an avid stamp collector who enjoyed trading stamps with fellow collectorsaround the globe. He was a parishioner of Church of the Ascension in Rockville Centre, where he servedon the Vestry for over 30 years. Challice also volunteered for over 20 years at the Phillips House Museum in Rockville Centre, giving tours and cataloguing artifacts, all while sharing his knowledge to all he encountered.
 
Survivors include his wife of over 60 years, Claudia, a daughter, two sons and seven grandchildren.
