In Memoriam: Léon Bressler, 77
European Real Estate Legend Spent Early Years at Chase
"I had lunch with him in London earlier in the summer," Bogni said. "He was very proud of the succession arrangements he had made concerning Aermont, a major real estate player, which he had founded in 2007, and was making plans for his and [his wife] Sylvie’s charitable foundation.
"Leon worked for Chase in Paris, NYC, Stuttgart, Frankfurt and London. While in Frankfurt, we worked together on the liquidation of the Familienbank. He was a great banker and would face every challenge or difficulty with a sense of balance and humor.
"He joined Midland Bank in Paris in 1978 and there we were again colleagues from 1980. His mentor at Chase and then Midland was Hervé de Carmoy. In Frankfurt he worked closely with Sieghardt Rometsch.
"In 1989, he became Chair and CEO of Lanvin. In 1991, he became a Managing Partner at Worms until 1996.
"As a major player in European real estate, he was involved twice successfully with Unibail (now Unibail-Rodamco), first as CEO, then much later as Chair of the Supervisory Board."
