In Memoriam: Volker Pesta, 81

Corporate Banker for Chase in Austria

Remembrance by Wolfgang Fenkart-Fröschl

Volker Pesta, who worked for Chase Manhattan Bank AG from 1969 to 1987, died on January 17, 2025, at the age of 81.

Born in Linz, Austria, he earned his law degree at the University of Vienna and shortly afterwards joined Osterreichische Kommerzialbank AG which later became Chase Manhattan Bank AG Austria.

Pesta was an enthusiastic corporate banker and his passion was managing MN relationships. His clients loved and respected him for his customer-centric approach and his profound banking expertise in operational and regulatory matters. His team members admired his positive attitude and humor even under adverse conditions.

After leaving Chase, Pesta worked for bsterreichische Volksbanken AG in Vienna, where he assumed a senior position in the corporate banking department. He also served as a director for their insurance and investment banking business.

In 1991, Pesta joined the Board of The American International School in Vienna and became their financial expert. He soon realized that international schools around the world were facing similiar problems finding a bank willing to finance them. As a consequence he initiated a business case for funding international schools, which he successfully continued after his retirement.

Pesta is survived by his wife, Thecla, and his son, Ferdinand.

He was a very active member of Chase Alumni and we will miss him deeply.
