In Memoriam: Audrey Cameron, 88

Pioneer Woman in Tech at MHT, Chem, Chase and JPM

Audrey Edna Manke Cameron, who led the team ensuring the smooth transition to Y2K at Chase Manhattan, died on April 26, 2026, in Madison, CT. She was 88.

Born in Hartford, CT, she graduated in 1959 from Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia, with a major in mathematics and a minor in Asian studies.

She quickly secured her first job with Systems Development Corporation in Santa Monica, CA. This job jump started her career in systems engineering, working for IBM, EXXON, Mobil Oil, Manufacturers Hanover Trust, Chemical Bank and Chase Bank. She met her husband while working in London and had a child while working in Toronto.

She retired from J.P. Morgan as a Vice President, where she ran the help desk for the trading floor. Her published death notice stated, "She applied great pressure to the glass ceiling and laid the groundwork for women who follow in her footsteps."

Her proudest accomplishment was raising her daughter, Samantha, as a single mother in New York City. In 1988, they moved to New Canaan, CT, with Cameron enduring the long commute so that they could enjoy greener pastures.

Among her survivors are her daughter, son-in-law, two grandchildren and a brother.

A memorial service will be held on June 19, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. Trinity Church, 651 Pequot Ave., Southport, CT. Memorial donations may be made to The Junior League of Eastern Fairfield County or The Connecticut Audubon Society.
