In Memoriam: Alan Jay Stern, 75
CPA at Chemical, Chase in Controller's Office, Treasury
Alan Jay Stern, a CPA who worked at Chemical Bank and Chase for 29 years in the Corporate Controller's Office and Treasury and Security Services, died on February 2, 2026 at his home in Fort Lee, NJ. He was 75. Stern earned a BA in accounting from the University of Rhode Island in 1972, and an MBA in finance from New York University in 1984.
He worked at Ernst & Young and the National Patent Development Corp. before joining Chemical in 1980. He retired from JP Morgan Chase in 2009.
Befitting his job, Stern loved numbers and computers. He was an enthusiastic participant on cruise line message boards on Prodigy and AOL. He shared his love of the Internet with his daughter and his love of luxury liners with his wife.
Stern is survived by his wife, Nancy Rogers Stern (also a Chase alumna); his daughter, Amy Stern; and his sister Shelly Propper.
Memorial donations may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, which provided much-needed guidance to his loved ones, or to the Kaplen Adult Reach Center at the JCC on the Palisades, which helped keep Stern healthy and social through the last decade of his life.
