In Memoriam: Luis Palau-Rivas

At Chase 1977-1996

The CAA mourns the passing of its member Luis Palau-Rivas, who died in Bogota, Colombia on December 19, 2010. He spent much of his career in Colombia and Ecuador, working at Chase from 1977 to 1996. He also worked for Chase in Bolivia, Chile, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay, in finance/capital markets and International Institutional.

He later worked for the Corporacion Andina de Fomento.

Tom Hayne, who headed Latin America Institutional for many years, recalled, “A real gentleman he was, and his many attributes made me like him very much.  I had a lot of good times with Luis during some of our old Institutional 'meetings' and outings, and I remember very well that real old Mercedes sedan that he tooled around in.  I also remember him shadowing me in Bogota because he was worried about my security – a very sensitive and thoughtful person.  He'll be missed.  My heart goes out to Amparo and his family.”

He is survived by his son, Jose M. Palau [jpalau9@gmail.com] and his wife, Amparo Serrano [ampse10@yahoo.com]. They can also be contacted at 201 Crandon Blvd #620, Key Biscayne, Florida 33149.
