New CAA Mentoring Initiative

Call for Mentors and Mentees

Could you use some guidance in connection with:

  • a career change or search for new employment?
  •   new business opportunities?
  •   interest in volunteering or working for a not-for profit?
  •   climbing Everest…?

Are you wondering if a fellow CAA member with relevant skills and experience is willing to spend some time with you to share advice, guidance or connections?

Alternatively, do you have skills, expertise and/or experience that might be useful to a fellow CAA member, and would you volunteer some time to share your knowledge with fellow members?

The CAA is launching a new initiative – CAA Mentoring – and is looking for members interested in being Mentees and/or Mentors.

The idea for this initiative originated in the Volunteer Night we held last November.  CAA members Yoram Kinberg and Ken Walker came up with the idea and have kindly volunteered their time to develop and run the first round of the CAA Mentoring initiative.

To kickstart the launch, CAA President John Ward has already signed up to be available as a Mentor.

CAA Board Members Jean-Marc Bara, Leon Desbrow and Ottho Heldring have volunteered their time to support Yoram and Ken.

Here is how this will work.

First, of course, we need Mentors and Mentees for the initiative.  Later, we may also call for volunteer “Subject Matter Experts”, in areas such as legal, not-for-profit, etc.

We will compile the list of interested participants. If the number of interested participants becomes too large for this first round, we may limit the number of Mentors or Mentees on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you express an interest, we will send you more information and a questionnaire to facilitate matching Mentors and Mentees.

Once we have a sufficient number of interested participants, we will close the list and arrange for a meeting with the interested Mentors to brief them on their role.  We are tentatively penciling in Wednesday, April 25, immediately prior to the CAA reception, for this meeting with Mentors only. Time and venue for this meeting will be communicated to the interested Mentors as soon as we have a sufficient number of responses.

Following this first meeting, we will arrange for a second meeting with all participants to match Mentors and Mentees.  We are shooting for mid/late May, if sufficient interest is generated.

We expect Mentors to devote 10 hours a month for each Mentee they take on.  The period of mentorship should last between three and six months.  Interested Mentors should only sign up if they are fully willing to volunteer the time and effort. Mentors or Mentees can terminate the process at any time. This is a volunteer effort, and no monetary or other compensation will be provided by the CAA or by Mentees.

Mentors and Mentees, all should:

  •  be a dues-paying member of the CAA, and
  •  live in the New York City metropolitan area and be willing to attend the initial meetings in Manhattan.

If you are interested in participating in this initiative, please send the

following information to

1. Your full name

2. Which role(s) you are interested in (Mentee and/or Mentor).

Once we have received this information, we will get back to you with the next steps.

If you are unsure whether you want to participate but have questions, please do not hesitate to send your questions to We will get back to you as soon as we can.  And if you do not have the time or interest in participating or do not live near NYC but have a comment about or idea for this initiative, we would love to hear from you.
