Chase Alumni: Surprise a Nonagenerian + New Chapter

Dear Reader,

John Philipsborn will turn 90 in London on September 8, 2009.  He is quite frail and will just be having a small lunch to celebrate.  If you would like to send John your good wishes on this special occasion, his address is 5 Coleherne Court, The Little Boltons, London SW5 ODL.

Following a career in the U.S. Foreign Service, John joined Chase in 1965 and did the credit training course (with a very young Jeff Cunningham and Tony Walton).  After a spell in Brussels, John moved to London to head the European Coordination Group.  He then took responsibility for the UK Institutional Banking Group before becoming Director of International Relations.  During this time he was also President of the American Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the European Council of American Chambers of Commerce. Since retiring, way past retirement age, he and his Parisian wife, Edwige, have remained in London.

Simon Mansfield, CAA London chapter coordinator, adds, "For those who worked with him, the expression "can walk with Kings and not lose the common touch" sums him up perfectly.  As you may know, John hails from Chicago, attended school in Paris with the Duke of Edinburgh as a young lad, and went on to Harvard.  He became a Pan Am pilot and flew Eisenhower during the war.  A great man and a great character."

Click below for news about our newest chapter, in Houston, led by Bill Zaffos.  The chapter will have its first event on September 24, 2009. We would love to hear from anyone who wants to organize a new regional chapter.  The CAA will subsidize the first event based on the number of attendees, and subsequent events based on the number of paid members participating.
