Chase Alumni: The Mole People in 1CMP, Mentors Part 2 + RIP: Kenneth Rolland

Dear Reader,
(# Indicates new articles or articles that have added content.
# Thank you to the mentors who influenced  generations of superb Chase bankers (and those of Chemical and MHT and other heritage institutions). We're offering tributes from Chase alumni who wanted to express their gratitude to men and women who helped shape their careers and lives.
The tributes are posted in three parts. Each part has links to the others and a list of writers and the colleagues they're thanking.
►This week, why not click here to read the wonderful stories in Part 2 (and learn who said, "Don't count your chickens before they're hedged").
If you still want to pay tribute to a mentor, if we accidentally overlooked a submission or if you want to say more about someone already cited by a colleague, please send your comments to news@chasealum.org

In the last newsletter of each year, we run an "In Remembrance" of all the alumni for whom we have posted an In Memoriam in that year. Inevitably, we then receive many emails about other alumni who died earlier in the year or even distant years. If at all possible, please inform us about the deceased by Christmas, so we can include their In Memoriam this calendar year. You can see whose death notices we have published by going to the home page menu and clicking on In Memoriam. Thank you.

# SHARE YOUR STORY We're looking for contributions to Moments in Bank History and Life After Chase. You can either send your story fully written or ask to be interviewed. Contact Andrea at  news@chasealum.org.

We have put together a compendium of past CAA eventswith links to photos (viewable only by dues-paying CAA members). Of course, none of us has aged in these photos (from 2005 to 2020).

The alumni trip to Croatia/Italy has been postponed to October 2022. More information has been sent directly to registrants.

 LIFE AFTER CHASE

Anne-Marie Barcia built a lifelong career out of what she learned in Chase credit training – how to train bankers!  She even found the "Bailey manual" in Egypt!

Read about the other two (or is it three and counting?) careers of Robert Aberlin, and learn how some Chase connections led from one thing to another in film, the dance world and education. Jim Adamson commented on the story, adding a great anecdote...worth a read!

MOMENTS IN BANK HISTORY

"So many otherwise well-ordered people unaccountably lose their touch when the subject is personal investments." (Problems with stocks AND socks, apparently.) The phone number was HAnover 2-6000, address 40 Wall St., New York 15...no five-digit zip code!

(And remember...you have friends at Chase Alumni who want to see photos of your Bank memorabilia! Please send to news@chasealum.org.)

# Gene Ret remembers being one of the "mole people" working without windows in The Vault on 5B at One Chase Manhattan Plaza.

Idiosyncratic or wacky? Paul Hemminger recalls some of the strange practices in the upstate NY hometown banks Chase acquired in the 1970s.

How Best to Use the CAA Membership Directory

If you have not done so recently, please update the information in your profile, so that the CAA and other members would be better able to contact you. Using the Membership Directory is a privilege of dues-paying CAA members.

Now get a refresher on how to best use the membership directory to find an individual or groups of individuals you would like to contact. (Note that only dues-paying members have access to the directory.).

To get to the directory, log in at www.chasealum.org. On the home page menu, click on Membership and then Member Directory.

When searching by name, or in any of the other search areas, we advise starting by putting in less information in the search field. For example, if you want to find William Smith, type only Smith in the Search by Name box; if you put in “William Smith” and he is calling himself Bill Smith in his profile, you will not find him.

If you want to find members who live near you, enter the city, state or country (or any combination) under Location. The Years at Chase search is very valuable. Type in 1996-2005, for instance, and you will find everyone who worked for the bank (including heritage banks) during those years. You can narrow your search by also typing in a location or job title.

Once you have entered the search words, click on Search at the bottom of the page. When members’ names appear, click on their names to obtain more detailed information about them.

If you have any problem with any of this, contact Ken Jablon at jablonkt@aol.com.

As always: If the links do not work for you, you can always access the latest stories by logging on to CAA's web site.

If you have any questions, please send an e-mail to Ken Jablon or call Ken (during normal working hours) at 212-799-9525.

By the by: Don't forget to explore the rest of the CAA Web site. Just click on the home page menu buttons to find the news archive, photo album, membership directory, past In Memoriams and benefit information.
