Chase Alumni: TWO Contests + Tony Lord on Early Investment Banking

Dear Reader,

[Existing stories (including In Memoriams) that feature new comments or material are indicated with a #.]

Alumni are also taking this time to write up stories about important moments in their Chase careers. See below under "A Moment in Bank History" to learn from Tony Lord how Chase Manhattan, partnering with AIG, offered investment banking in the Philippines long before it was allowed to in the United States.

CONTESTS!

# Contest No. 2: Where will JPMorgan Chase stock (JPM) be at the close of the third quarter? Because we think that many of our members have expertise, insight and, possibly, super powers, we're having a contest to see who can guess what the JPM stock price will be at the close of market on Thursday, September 30, 2020. Entries should be to two decimal places and must be received by 11:59 pm (EDT) on Monday, June 1, 2020.

Because of various laws, the contest is open only to dues-paying members of the CAA. Only one entry is permitted per member, and no changes are permitted. Your entry should be sent to news@chasealum.org. Subject line: JPM Stock Price. Please include your name.

The winner will receive a $250 Amazon gift card.

# CONTEST No. 1: Guess who Joe Biden's running mate will be. Click here to access the ballot. You must include your name and e-mail on the ballot to be eligible for the prize–a $250 Amazon gift certificate. The winner will be chosen by random drawing among the winning guesses and must be a dues-paying CAA member. Only one entry per person, and you can't change your entry once submitted. Deadline for submissions: June 15, 2020. (Yes, we're asking you to look into a disinfected crystal ball.)

Here are the results so far. Among the write-ins are Michelle Obama, Val Demings and, ahem, Satan:

CORONAVIRUS SPRING: STORIES
We've asked alumni around the world to describe their local experience with managing the pandemic:

Hans van den Houten remembers the Netherlands during World War II, prior to this week's observance of the 75th anniversary of the country's liberation by Canadian forces, providing a link to a stunning article in The New York Times about recovered Dutch wartime diaries and casting today's "war" against COVID-19 in a different perspective.

Vernon Moore sent in a story that begins to explain why the infection and death rate in Hong Kong is so remarkably low.

# UPDATED (Find out how his patient is doing, see a photo of Dr. Kanter's team)
Read the extraordinary and moving story added to our The Coronavirus Spring collection: An account by Chase alumnus Tim Kanter, who became a doctor and is now on the front line of the COVID-19 battle at a Bronx hospital.

Please consider sharing with us any special stories you have about displacement, odd or funny stories about how you are occupying your time or old banking stories you've delayed writing up for us because you were too busy doing other things. Please keep sending your book recommendations (and reasons for recommending).

Social distancing is the new norm, but not virtual social distancing! We hope you'll consider the CAA web platform as a way to reach out to others and keep from going stir crazy: Read previously published stories (mostly under "News" or "Life After Chase"), or write a new one for us.

How Best to Use the CAA Membership Directory
If you have not done so recently, please update the information in your profile, so that the CAA and other members would be better able to contact you. Using the Membership Directory is a privilege of dues-paying CAA members.

Now get a refresher on how to best use the membership directory to find an individual or groups of individuals you would like to contact. (Note that only dues-paying members have access to the directory.).

To get to the directory, log in at www.chasealum.org. On the home page menu, click on Membership and then Member Directory.

When searching by name, or in any of the other search areas, we advise starting by putting in less information in the search field. For example, if you want to find William Smith, type only Smith in the Search by Name box; if you put in “William Smith” and he is calling himself Bill Smith in his profile, you will not find him.

If you want to find members who live near you, enter the city, state or country (or any combination) under Location. The Years at Chase search is very valuable. Type in 1996-2005, for instance, and you will find everyone who worked for the bank (including heritage banks) during those years. You can narrow your search by also typing in a location or job title.

Once you have entered the search words, click on Search at the bottom of the page. When members’ names appear, click on their names to obtain more detailed information about them.

If you have any problem with any of this, contact Ken Jablon at jablonkt@aol.com.

As always: If the links do not work for you, you can always access the latest stories by logging on to CAA's web site.

If you have any questions, please send an e-mail to Ken Jablon or call Ken (during normal working hours) at 212-799-9525.

By the by: Don't forget to explore the rest of the CAA Web site. Just click on the home page menu buttons to find the news archive, photo album, membership directory, past In Memoriams and benefit information.
