Chase Alumni: "ForChevAmChrysVagen" + Sadness in Vienna: Pichler and Ratka, RIP

# In about four months (March 31, 2021), we will mark the 25th anniversary of Chemical Bank's acquisition of Chase Manhattan Bank and the assumption of the name Chase. The Chase Alumni Association often gets feedback that we neglect our members whose careers began at Manufacturers Hanover or Chemical Bank. So we're asking now for your stories about "the old days" at those two banks. Please send your story ideas or essays to news@chasealum.org. Separately, if you have stories about the merger, please let us know. We need your help to honor the anniversary! We're starting the celebration by posting pictures of various Chemical memorabilia items. We'll add more over time and also represent Manufacturers Hanover. If you have other items you want to share, please send the images to news@chasealum.org.

Nicholas Sargen discussed his upcoming book JPMorgan's Fall and Revival with business journalist Consuela Mack at a virtual event sponsored by the Museum of American Finance and Fordham's Gabelli School of Business on October 6, 2020. We have put together a compendium of past CAA events, with links to photos (viewable only by dues-paying CAA members). Of course, none of us has aged in these photos (from 2005 to 2020). Until we meet again in person!

When Jennifer Schroeder Johnson joined Chase in pursuit of an international banking career, she never imagined that she'd end up co-owning the oldest estate winery in New York State. Ice wine, anyone?

Please keep sending your book recommendations (and reasons for recommending). 

Social distancing is the new norm, but not virtual social distancing! We hope you'll consider the CAA web platform as a way to reach out to others and keep from going stir crazy: Read previously published stories (mostly under "News" or "Life After Chase"), or write a new one for us.

# The CAA mourns the unexpected passing of its member Peter Pichler, 62, who worked for Chase from 1982 to 1990 in Vienna before being hired by his client, Berndorf AG, which he ended up heading for almost 20 years. Pichler died on November 8, 2020.

 
 
 
 
 

# Heinz R. Ratka, 74, who worked in Trade Finance for Chase in Vienna from 1982 to 1988, died on October 24, 2020.

 
 
 
 
 

The CAA mourns the passing of its member Richard Heil Pinney, 78, who worked for Chase from 1967 to 1982, died on October 31, 2020. His wife, Donna Morrell, is also a CAA member. 

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

# George Wilkinson, 78, who helped Chase launch its credit card in the UK and eventually helped them dispose of the business, died on November 4, 2020.  

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Vincent (Vince) Dole III, 76, who worked for Chase in Rio and NYC in the 1970s, died on October 25, 2020.  

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Justin (Judd) McCarthy, 81, a longtime CAA member and 40-year-veteran of Chase in Corporate HR, died on October 8, 2020.  

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
How Best to Use the CAA Membership Directory            
If you have not done so recently, please update the information in your profile, so that the CAA and other members would be better able to contact you. Using the Membership Directory is a privilege of dues-paying CAA members.
 
Now get a refresher on how to best use the membership directory to find an individual or groups of individuals you would like to contact. (Note that only dues-paying members have access to the directory.).
 
To get to the directory, log in at www.chasealum.org. On the home page menu, click on Membership and then Member Directory.
 
When searching by name, or in any of the other search areas, we advise starting by putting in less information in the search field. For example, if you want to find William Smith, type only Smith in the Search by Name box; if you put in “William Smith” and he is calling himself Bill Smith in his profile, you will not find him.
 
If you want to find members who live near you, enter the city, state or country (or any combination) under Location. The Years at Chase search is very valuable. Type in 1996-2005, for instance, and you will find everyone who worked for the bank (including heritage banks) during those years. You can narrow your search by also typing in a location or job title.
 
Once you have entered the search words, click on Search at the bottom of the page. When members’ names appear, click on their names to obtain more detailed information about them.
