 # Pay Tribute to Your Mentor: Last year, we received many contributions when we asked you to pay tribute to a mentor at the bank who helped shape your career, values and interests, someone who went beyond just being your boss. Once again, in advance of Thanksgiving, we invite you to pay tribute to that individual in a short essay. You must write about an employee of Chase, Chemical, Manny Hanny, Bank One, First Chicago or the other banks that are the heritage of JPMorgan Chase. Please include specifics. If you have a photo of yourself with your mentor, please send it. Essays must be sent to news@chasealum.org by 5 pm (Eastern) on Sunday, November 20th. The feature will run on Thanksgiving Weekend. Last year we had enough essays to require that we run it in three parts. Let's see if we can add a fourth and fifth!
NEWS & EVENTS (PAST AND FUTURE)
 # UK (AND VISITING) ALUMNI: The UK Alumni Holiday Lunch will be held on Monday, 5 December 2022, from 12:30 to 15:00. Richard Ingram has kindly offered to host an Alumni Holiday Lunch at the RAF Club, 128 Piccadilly, London. The cost is £40 (food and wine) for dues-paying CAA members and £65 for non-members. Please contact Chapter Coordinator Simon Mansfield by Wednesday, 23 November to reserve and for payment instructions. Click here for more details and to see who is planning to attend so far.
 That's not how we do things (Part 2): We're starting to post more stories about experiences alumni have had being approached overseas (or stateside) to participate in corrupt practices–or having to look the other way. The newest post is a story by Sergei Boboshko about his experiences in Russia in the 1990s.

 Chase in Ireland: Many thanks to David Humphries for scanning and sending us An Irish Banking Revolution, which tells the fascinating story of an Irish banking institution, beginning with the formation of the Irish National Land Bank in 1919, its evolution as National City Bank Ltd. during turbulent political and economic times, and developments before and after it became Chase & Bank of Ireland (International) Ltd. in a joint venture. Chase took over full ownership in 1979.

LIFE AFTER CHASE
Congratulations to Ron Mayer, who was honored on October 27, 2022 by the New York Legal Assistance Group for this pro bono service to NYLAG's clientele.
 # A General Note: Alumnae of First Chicago and Morgan Guaranty have sent us emails complaining that those institutions are not sufficiently represented on this website, that everything is about Chase, Chemical and Manny Hanny. (And, of course, we get complaints from Chem and MHT alumni that everything is about Chase!) This is a reminder that we largely rely on you, our members, to send us your stories and recollections. We propose story topics – e.g. mentors, romance in the workplace, working in dangerous situations, memorabilia, best hires, ways you spent the pandemic, book recommendations, to name a few – and then hope that alumni from all the JPMC heritage organizations will chime in. We're also always looking for contributions to Moments in Bank History (all the banks!) and Life After Chase (or Chem, MHT, First Chicago, etc.). So please, scour your memories and contact us! As always, you can write up a story yourself or just ask to be interviewed. Contact Andrea at news@chasealum.org.

# Object of the Week: From Jerry Hannon: "Inspired by Ed Moran's contribution in October, I have attached a picture of the nameplate I received when promoted at the then-HQ of Manufacturers Hanover (350 Park; the last groups departed for 270 Park in 1983, making it our sole HQ). The nameplate is made of solid brass and the name was etched into the brass. I don't know how much Ed's nameplate weighed, but the Manny Hanny nameplate is precisely 2 pounds and 14 ounces. I never bothered keeping the plastic or aluminum prior nameplates, but this gem was a thing of beauty. It could also substitute for a lethal weapon suitable for an episode of Murder, She Wrote."

 John Tomick has posted First Chicago's commercials from the late 1970s and early 1980s, through which you can understand an era of the bank's marketing strategies and the end of Unit Banking. Tomick was the marketing guru for the bank through its acquisition by Bank One. The story also examines Tomick's own creative life as a visual and musical artist.

 John A. Ward, III, president of the Chase Alumni Association since 2005, died of lung cancer on the morning of September 30, 2022. Please click here for the rest of the In Memoriam.

 # The CAA mourns the passing of longtime member Mark Kaufmann, who died on November 17, 2022, just short of his 90th birthday. Kaufmann was a senior vice president and Director of Corporate Development at Chase Manhattan for many years.
# William H. "Bill" Maurhoff, 86, who once worked in New York, South America and London for both Chase Manhattan and Chemical Bank, died on November 10, 2022.
 # Ronald Halloran Jr., 78, who worked for Chase for 35 years, retiring in 2002 as a VP in the Corporate Trust Group, died on November 9, 2022.
 Maria "Conchita" Ravelo, 94, who was a credit manager for Chase Manhattan, died on November 8, 2022, in Staten Island. She had also been an auditor in her native Cuba.
Benjamin Ward McCleary, who led Chemical Bank's team on the 1979 bailout of the Chrysler Corporation, died on October 6, 2022, age 88.
 Paulette Mullings Bradnock, who spent more than 20 years as an auditor at Chemical and Chase as part of a stellar career culminating in becoming Chief of Audit for BNY Mellon, died unexpectedly on her 62nd birthday, September 15, 2022, while on a trip to Jamaica.
How Best to Use the CAA Membership Directory
 If you have not done so recently, please update the information in your profile, so that the CAA and other members would be better able to contact you. Using the Membership Directory is a privilege of dues-paying CAA members.
Now get a refresher on how to best use the membership directory to find an individual or
groups of individuals you would like to contact. (Note that only dues-paying members have
access to the directory.).
To get to the directory, log in at www.chasealum.org. On the home page menu, click on Membership and then Member Directory.
When searching by name, or in any of the other search areas, we advise starting by putting in less information in the search field. For example, if you want to find William Smith, type only Smith in the Search by Name box; if you put in “William Smith” and he is calling himself Bill Smith in his profile,
you will not find him.
If you want to find members who live near you,
enter the city, state or country (or any combination) under Location. The Years at Chase search is very valuable. Type in 1996-2005, for instance, and you will find everyone who worked for the bank (including heritage banks) during those years. You can narrow your search by also typing in a location or job title.
Once you have entered the search words, click on Search at the bottom of the page. When members’ names appear, click on their names to obtain more detailed information about them.
